The Cascais concert
Brian May played on the 17th December '93 in Cascais.
I was 16 years old. Nowadays, a 16-yo boy enjoys a kind of freedom that wasn't
conceded ten years ago: I perfectly remember the frustrated efforts I had to
make in order to convince my parents to allow me to attend the concert. After
many storms and obstacles, there I went, all by myself. I caught the train in
Cais do Sodré to Cascais. I roamed alone and a little bit lost in Cascais,
until I spotted a fairly big queue near an old, obsolete and ugly pavillion. I
waited for about an hour in a blistering cold. Meanwhile, the security guards
allowed us in. As the pavillion was not full (there was plenty of space
available), I got near the stage. People from Abraço (an organization that
tries to fight against AIDS) were giving condoms, while everyone awaited for
the opening act by Robbie Valentine, who never showed up!
Meanwhile, Brian May's show started, and I could
fulfill my dream! The concert was truly amazing. I had the chance to see many
more concerts from then on, but Brian's show is one of the best concerts I
ever saw, honestly! That magnificent show ended in about two hours. It was an
authentic Queen-fan meeting, as everyone seemed to know all the lyrics and
choreographies!
After the show ended, I started to run as I had
never runned before: the train was leaving in about 5 minutes, and I had to
catch him to get home early! Fortunately, my run allowed me to get in time.
15 years have gone, but I still remember many
moments of that concert, especially when I hear the CD that BM released
after that tour: "Live At Brixton Academy".
